Increased Vigilance Advised To 4×4

(PRWEB UK) 19 May 2012

Sureterm Direct warns 4×4 owners that car theft is on the rise with 9,000 vehicles across the UK being stolen in just 36 days at the beginning of 2011 (Association of Chief Police Officers Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service AVCIS Report 2011). 4×4?s are particularly at risk to theft as a report from Tracker released last year puts three 4×4 vehicles in the top 10 most stolen list with BMW X5 in pole position followed closely by Range Rover?s in second, and the Mercedes ML at number 10.

Owners of 4×4?s should also be cautious as it is not just the cars that are stolen but the vehicle parts, with many stolen to ?order? by gangs. This crime is also on the increase as Sheffield Police issued a vigilance warning to all 4×4 owners earlier this year due to a spate of attacks. Most popular removed parts being ?front bumper and grill, front headlamps and side grills? as detailed in a Norfolk Police report from 2011. The parts stolen are often skillfully removed and are easier to sell on as they are harder to track, making them popular with thieves. Some vehicles stolen are also stripped down to just parts for this reason.

Sureterm a specialist 4×4 insurance intermediary suggest a number of ways which could protect vehicles from being a target to potential thieves:

Vehicle documents such as registration, MOT and insurance certificates should not be left in cars and all valuables should be hidden and not out in plain sight.
Having a tracker or alarm fitted such as a Thatcham (http://www.thatcham.org/) security device is a useful deterrent; Sureterm also advises that having a device such as this could help reduce 4×4 insurance premiums.
Etching a unique identification number i.e. registration number onto all glass vehicle parts (Windows/headlamps/sunroof) can put thieves off as they are traceable and cost too much to replace when trying to sell.
Marking vehicle parts with a UV marker pen is also advised to help stolen parts to be returned in the event a car is stolen.
A simple and effective way to deter unwanted interest in a vehicle is (if no garage/driveway available) to park in a busy and well lit area as this is off putting to thieves who do not want to risk being caught.

If a vehicle is thought to have been stolen the first course of action is to contact the police immediately with all vehicle details including the registration number, make, model and colour of the vehicle, a crime number will then be issued. Sureterm also advises in the event a car is stolen the insurance company must also be informed in case a claim needs to be made as the crime number will be needed. The insurance company may well request the whole registration document or certificate and this requires the V5C/3 section of the V5C registration certificate to be completed. The DVLA will then need to be notified and will ask for details of the insurance company and the date of the claim to proceed. Further information can be found on the DVLA website http://www.direct.gov.uk.

So Ole Says to Lena: Folk Humor of the Upper Midwest

In the land of beer, cheese, and muskies—where the polka is danced and winter is unending and where Lutherans and Catholics predominate—everybody is ethnic, the politics are clean, and the humor is plentiful. This collection includes jokes, humorous anecdotes, and tall tales from ethnic groups (Woodland Indians, French, Cornish, Germans, Irish, Scandinavians, Finns, and Poles) and working folk (loggers, miners, farmers, townsfolk, hunters, and fishers). Dig into the rich cultural context supplied by the notes and photographs, or just laugh at the hundreds of jokes gathered at small-town cafes, farm tables, job sites, and church suppers. This second edition includes an afterword and indexes of motifs and tale types.

Pole Pole Resort is the perfect Romantic Getaway, the ideal place for a romantic honeymoon package on Mafia Island off the coast of Tanzania. Mafia is a remote small wooded island accessible only by plane, best from Dar es Salaam, or Zanzibar or other parts of Tanzania via Dar. There are flights every day, but be warned the aircraft is small, perhaps only 16 seats and it isn’t for the faint hearted. After landing on a grass airstrip on Mafia it is still a further hour by jeep.

Pole Pole as a vacation destination which is off the beaten track immediately means that only like minded souls tend to go there, plus a good sprinkling of honeymoon couples post safari, because it really is a romantic honeymoon getaway more than anything else.

Pole Pole in Swahili means literally ‘ take it easy’ and that is exactly what you will do when you are here. In East Africa you get used to noise and bustle, hassle and delays, children begging for money. At Pole Pole Lodge there is none of this. What you get is peace and tranquility, and lots of sunshine. Not a sign of a dusty road, just a beach.

Pole Pole specializes in excellent service and cuisine. There are 7 spacious bungalows and large shady verandas with day beds. The room and veranda are very much built in local style with carved and antique pieces, very private, and very clean. You do feel like a bit of a castaway. Two bungalows are designated Family Rooms with a second bedroom with twin beds. With the lack of mains electricity at Pole Pole it comes as a bit of a surprise that the bedrooms come with a fan, and there is a walk in shower with no shortage of hot water. The early morning tea in bed, and sundowner cocktails on the veranda will live with you long after you leave Pole Pole.

There really isn’t anything to do apart from relaxing on a day bed, swimming at high tide, although the beach does vanish, and swimming at low tide is impossible. You can take dhow trips to remote beaches and island where you won’t see another soul, as this whole place is so empty and unspoiled. The snorkeling and diving are incredible with quite amazing fish, coral, and colors you really can’t believe until you see it.

Pole Pole really is the kind of sleepy place for honeymooners who have spent the first part of their romantic honeymoon package on safari, and now just want to chill out.

Eating is a major feature at Pole Pole, and there is a strong Italian management team here. As you might expect the food has an Italian flavor allied to African and spicy European influences and delicious it is too. Most food is organically produced and bought locally to benefit the local economy. You might well find the antipasto consists of something like octopus salad, and there will also be pasta on the menu. You will find that fish features hugely on the menu, and you will often be served an ice cold dessert which isn’t bad considering there is no mains electricity. The split level dining bar area is at the bottom of the hill, right next to the kitchen reception area, all lit by oil lamps and candles. With the very elegant glassware and crockery it makes for a lovely setting. If you are worried about not liking something on a very small menu, your concerns will be allayed by the manageress who will ensure any food problems are taken care of. Alcohol by the way isn’t expensive, and house wines can be ordered by the glass.

In terms of daytime eating, breakfast is a mixture of fresh local fruit, featuring the likes of Mango and Papaya, bread, toast and eggs if you want them. If you are out on a trip a picnic is supplied otherwise there is a light lunch at Pole Pole.

The staff at this remote outpost on Mafia Island are very friendly and helpful. Pole Pole is a perfect spot for a romantic honeymoon, but probably five days would be a long enough visit.

On a June day, Churchill had risen to declare: ‘The battle of France is over. I expect that the battle of Britain is about to begin. We shall fight on the beaches. We shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender.” The courage and character that Churchill pledged for Britain had already been demonstrated by Poland. It was the first country to experience the terror of the Nazi Blitzkrieg, the first to fight back, the first to say – and mean – “We shall never surrender”. Poland fell in October 1939, but its government and military refused then, and refused for the rest of the war, to capitulate. In a remarkable odyssey, scores of thousands of Polish pilots, soldiers, and sailors escaped Poland – some on foot; some in cars, trucks, and buses; some in airplanes; some in ships and submarines. They made their various ways first to France, thence to Britain to continue the fight. For the first full year of the war, Poland, whose government-in-exile operated from London, was Britain’s most important declared ally. Polish pilots were ferocious fighters. With their homeland in enemy hands and news of Nazi and Soviet atrocities in the occupied Poland reaching them on almost daily basis, unsure of the fate of their close ones, they took their hate into the air with them. The English girls loved the Poles, the newspapers raved about their exploits, and King George VI visited them at their

Is your kid getting ready for their first slumber party? Something that is always good to have in a slumber party is a sleeping bag. Sleeping bags are a great alternative to having just a pillow and a blanket. When kids are at a sleep over they like to show off their toys and one thing that they will want to show off is their sleeping bag. The great thing about a sleeping bag is that they come in all different sorts of styles and colors so you are sure to find one that your child will love. Not only do sleeping bags for kids come in different styles but they are also in different price ranges. Super Hero Sleeping Bags for KidsOne of the most sought out sleeping bags is the super hero sleeping bag for children. These sleeping bags feature one of your kid’s favorite super hero’s. A very popular super hero is Spiderman. If your child likes Spiderman then you can easily find him a Spiderman sleeping bag that is of very high quality. You can have a spider web embroidered sleeping bag that your child will show off to all of his friends. If you have a daughter that is more into the Disney characters such as Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty then a sleeping bag with these cartoons will be a perfect gift. You might even be able to find a Snow White sleeping bag for your daughter. The possibilities for a sleeping bag your child will like are endless. Just like you can find a kid sleeping bag with a cartoon character you can also find it in different colors. The truth of the matter is that your child might not have a favorite cartoon character or super hero; therefore, you must satisfy them with their favorite color. A sleeping bag can come in so many different colors so whether your child’s favorite color is red, blue, orange, or pink you can be sure that you will always find a sleeping bag that is perfect for your kid. Where To Find A Quality Sleeping Bag For Your ChildIf you are like most people then you probably like to know the prices of things before you buy them. When it comes to sleeping bags there are some things to consider that may affect the price. One thing to consider is the quality of the sleeping bag. The better the quality then the more expensive the sleeping bag will be. If you know that your kid will be using the sleeping bag on a camping trip or some other out door activity then getting a high quality sleeping bag is probably a very good idea. This way you will be sure that your sleeping bag will last your child for many years to come. Some of the more expensive sleeping bags are also very easy to wash. If for any reason your child happens to spill anything on their sleeping bag then you can easily put it in the washing machine for a good clean.

Alongside new products, bargain tables and exclusive show deals on photographic gear, Exposure is also honoured to welcome an incredible assortment of published and award-winning professional speakers, including Toronto Star Photojournalist Michelle Shephard, Canadian Wildlife Photographer Ethan Meleg and passionately inspiring travel photographer Sam Mehta.

Some have said that viewing life through a lens narrows your vision on the world. However, the works of these esteemed photographers only aid to deny and contradict this belief. To them, the camera destroys the tunnel around our perspective on the planet, and reveals life in all of its variety. Michelle Shephard?s award-winning and profound political snapshots, Ethan Meleg?s wildlife masterpieces, or Sam Mehta?s adventurous details of his travels?each bring us closer to comprehension of the vast and complex world that we live in. These three artists have exposed emotion, veracity and wonder through their work; some of the many reasons why they are warmly welcomed and eagerly anticipated to the stage at Exposure, Spring 2012.

Twice a recipient of the National Newspaper Award and the Governor General’s Michener Award for Public Service Journalism, Michelle Shephard started her photojournalism career among the crumbling remains of New York City’s World Trade Center on the night of 9/11. Now working as the Toronto Star’s National Security reporter, she scours the streets of Mogadishu to the mountains of Waziristan as intensely as she does the political power plays of Washington and Ottawa. A photographer who puts the story before the technical mastery of the image, Michelle is first and foremost a student of the world, whose photography seeks to answer questions she has about our place in an environment mediated by injustice and violence. Exposure thanks the Toronto Star for allowing us this opportunity to present Michelle to our audience.

Published by National Geographic, Canadian Geographic, Forbes, Ontario Tourism, Lonely Planet, Popular Photography, and humourist for an Outdoor Photography Canada Magazine column, Ethan Meleg is the definitive professional photographer living the dream and doing what he loves. A specialist in photography of the natural world who captures images of birds, wildlife, landscapes, and outdoor recreation in their natural glory, Ethan is the consummate explorer. Driven by a passion for Canadian wildlife, he scours our precious landforms with a camera lens as his only guide and creates images that define who we are as Canadians. Along with the prestige of his published works, Ethan is a popular and accomplished presenter; his talks offer a rare blend of amazing imagery plus entertaining dialogue. Humorous, informative and inspirational, Exposure is proud to include Ethan as a speaker at this year’s inaugural show.

Exposure is proud to present the powerful imagery of an adventurist, a truly passionate photographer and life-long lover of travel. Sam Mehta has traveled the world to exotic destinations, but his eye remains focused on capturing the magical details of unfamiliar territory and making it his own. A strong character with a delicate eye, Sam has completed the Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal in 2010 and trekked other regions in the Himalayas (Bhutan, Sikkim, Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh) in 2011. Sam is scheduled to tour the remaining Himalayan regions (Tibet, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand) in 2012, completing his three-year plan to capture images of Himalayan people and places. An ardent user of Canon DSLR gear, Sam will discuss his approach to photography, his choice of travel gear, what he packs, and what equipment he uses when hiking in remote locations. Bring your backpack! Sam’s presentation will have you traveling to the ends of the Earth and back.

Exposure is extremely excited to welcome these talented individuals to the stage, and we can?t wait to see you there!
